Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

BorrowGears (the “Service”) is owned and operated by Forces LLC (フォーシス合同会社), a Japanese limited liability company (合同会社) registered at 2-16-22 Shiratori, Katsushika-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Forces LLC is the data controller for personal information collected through borrowgears.com. Company website: forces.jp.

2. What we collect

  • Account info: name, email, profile photo (optional), city/state, phone (optional), short bio (optional). Created during WorkOS sign-up.
  • Identity verification: if you opt in, Stripe Identity collects government-issued ID images and a selfie. BorrowGears receives only a pass/fail status from Stripe; we do not store the documents themselves.
  • Listings & rentals:the content you post (tool details, photos, pricing, location of the listing), plus booking records (dates, messages, ratings).
  • Payment info: handled by Stripe. BorrowGears stores a subscription status and a Stripe customer ID. We do not store card numbers or bank details.
  • Usage: standard server logs (IP, user agent, request timestamps) for debugging and abuse prevention. No third-party analytics at this time.
  • Location: if you grant browser geolocation, we use it in-session to sort search results by distance. A cached version is stored in your browser (localStorage) for 7 days; it is not sent to BorrowGears.

3. Who we share data with

BorrowGears uses the following processors to operate the Service. Each receives only the data it needs to do its job.

  • Cloudflare — hosting, DNS, edge caching, R2 object storage for listing photos.
  • Neon — PostgreSQL database storing user, listing, and booking records.
  • WorkOS AuthKit — authentication.
  • Stripe — payments and identity verification.
  • Mapbox — map tiles and geocoding on the search and listing pages.
  • Meilisearch — full- text search indexing for tool listings.

We do not sell personal information. We share data with other users only as part of the rental flow — e.g., a Lender sees a Renter's name and message when they request a booking.

4. Listings are public

Listings you publish — photos, descriptions, approximate location, your display name, and verification status — are indexed by search engines and visible to anyone who visits the Service. Do not post anything in a listing you are not comfortable making public.

5. Cookies & local storage

We use browser localStorage to cache your authentication token and your approximate location between sessions. We do not currently use analytics cookies or third-party trackers.

6. Your choices

  • Edit or delete listings and profile fields at any time from your profile page.
  • To delete your account, email account@borrowgears.com. We'll confirm, then delete your account and personal data (booking records may be retained in anonymized form for dispute resolution and accounting).
  • You can deny browser geolocation at any time; the search page still works without it via the “Browse All Tools” option.

7. Children

The Service is for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes

We'll update the “Last updated” date when this policy changes. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the Service.
